How to sign your South Carolina title when selling your vehicle

The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following easy steps:
  1. Always sign the back of the title where indicated by “Signature(s) of Seller(s)” (see image).
  2. Second, print (don’t sign) your name on the back of the title where it reads “Hand print name(s) of seller(s)”.

How to get a duplicate title for my vehicle

If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than South Carolina, you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state in which the vehicle was last titled. Find your state at the bottom of our homepage for instructions.The registered owner of the vehicle must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the Lost/Stolen or Destroyed Certificate of Title Report
  2. Fill out the South Carolina Application for Certifi cate of Title and Registration for Motor Vehicle.
  3. You can choose to do one of the following options: Bring your duplicate title application to your local South Carolina  DMV, or, Mail your application to the SC division of motor vehicles at:
